Gokul is the manifestation of the belief that every life created by God is meaningful, purposeful and if given support & Conducive atmosphere, can be of immense help to the society. ‘Gokul’ a shelter, a home for the special need children was established in Sept 2000, for the people who do not have a shoulder to lean on facing neglect in their family and society. The Journey of Gokul was initiated by Organizing Health Camps in Dehradun, Almora, Pauri, Chamoli, Tehri, Uttarakashi District. In 2005 Gokul Centre was established in Dehradun with its wings Gokul Liaison Centre, Gokul Physiotherapy Centre, Gokul Computer Centre and Gokul Artificial Limb Centre The problem of disability is peculiar for state of Uttarakhand in view of the area being Tough hilly/terrain and lack of medical facilities.
Most of the Special need persons belong to the poor section of Society. Rehabilitation of such persons has to keep in mind that they are to be provided with medical, educational facilities through visits, co ordination with Local Authorities, Awareness Programme, Health Camps and programme for Self Employment/Employment. The Journey continues with an objective to motivate the Society to support and make this world a bettar place for the special need persons.
